Currently - I'm involved in a habit that exhibits the following traits:
1) Expensive ($k's yearly)
2) Dangerous (I have much safer alternatives available)
3) Distraction @ work (see the timing of this post).
4) Distraction @ home - I'd rather be doing this than home work generally.
5) Distraction from Vicki
6) Vicki hates when I do this alone. This leaves her very nervous. + I have no others to do this with (primarily because my schedule isn't flexible and my decision to do this is generally last minute) so her nerves won't rest.
7) Vicki tries to want to do this with me which distracts me from focusing as I need and adds x4 stress.
8) I'm getting comfortable and this is performing way beyond expectations - meaning something will give soon.
9)
You can probably guess - this is about motorcycling. Due to all the aforementioned - riding puts me into a bad attitude. I look back on all of these negatives and feel terrible. Couple that with the fact that life should be about having new experiences - I've experienced what it's like to ride and continued riding is just masturbation.
So I Google reasons to ride a motorcycle' and come with these top 10 from: http://motorcycles.about.com/od/motorcyclingbasic1/ss/Why_Ride_10.htm
1) For the thrill of it: It's fun and sensational but rarely these senses are triggered while simultaneously being constructive too. (thumbs sideways)
2) Saving at the pump (fuel efficiency): My bike gets about 30mpg - not much better than Vicki's car or my truck. (thumbs down)
3) Easy parking: Minneapolis doesn't have shit for dedicated motorcycle parking. I'm quite sure they'd be offended if you park a bike on the sidewalk - so I'm generally out in the lot anyway and hidden by the surrounding vehicles. (thumbs down)
4) Camaraderie: repeat - I ride with no one. Thinking a motorcycle maybe a social catalyst is maybe okay for those with socializing skills but my bad attitude generally warrants no socializing. (thumbs down)
5) Individuality: only applicable when with @ least another person. (thumbs down)
6) Low environmental impact: if you smell my garage after I start the bike - you know this isn't good for the environment. (thumbs down)
7) Ease of commuting: hwy 169 to 694 to University Ave. N. = no motorcycle commuting privilege. (thumbs down)
8) Mid boggling performance for less than $15k: See #1. This isn't unique and doesn't count. (thumbs down)
9) Let's face it - bikes are cool: nope. (thumbs down)
10) Escape and adventure: See #1. This isn't unique and doesn't count (thumbs down)
So I have 1/2 reason to keep riding and many against. Considering we're considering makin babies - there's no way I'm going to want to expose myself to that kind of danger after I've got such a dependent. Considering my truck lease will be up in abt 1 year - I'll need the money for a down payment on a car.
I think my mind is set - it's simply selfish to have a motorcycle. Being selfish doesn't support evolution in any way. Maybe someone with experience can explain why a person should own a motorcycle but until then - I'll be drafting my motorcycle's classifieds description.
Maybe the end of this blog - what an expensive and simply horrendous way to learn that motorcycling does nothing good. D
